Lobster fishery: record prices for week 1 and « historic » catches
The Magdalen Islands lobster fishermen obtained a record price of $8.91/lb for the first week of the 2022 season.
At this time last year, the price paid at the wharf started at $7.73/lb, which was then a record.
In 2021, the landed price exceeded $8.00/lb. by the sixth week of fishing.
Data from the Islands Lobster Fishermen’s Board indicate that in addition to being on the rise, the catch volume is historic.
More than 2,147,000 pounds were caught, which represents an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2021.
