Family medicine: only the CLSC clinic will be open for the first two weeks of August
Clients of the two main medical clinics in the archipelago will have to be patient for the next three weeks.
The Place Sumarah medical clinic is closed for follow-up consultations until August 21, while the Clinique Santé de l’Archipel will reopen its doors on August 15.
The two institutions are responsible for more than 50% of the 9,383 Magdalen Islanders who have access to a family doctor.
According to Dr. Ychelle Fortier, physician in charge of the family medicine group and owner of the Place Sumarah clinic, this closure is mainly due to the vacation period.
She says that while follow-up appointments for people living with chronic illnesses are suspended, situations requiring prompt intervention can be handled through the minor emergency clinic.
A dozen daily consultations are available starting at 8 a.m. by making an appointment online or by phone.
Dr. Fortier also refers people to the 811 line if they are unsure of the urgency of a situation in order to be redirected to the right resources and reminds them that it is essential not to overload the CISSS des Iles emergency room for less important problems.
Note that the Place Sumarah medical clinic will welcome two new doctors to its ranks at the beginning of September, which should make it possible to improve the family medicine offer in the Islands.
