Grande-Entrée PPCMOI: sufficient signatures to maintain a registry

The project to build a lobster pound on chemin des fumoirs in Grande-Entrée is facing opposition from village residents.

The clerk’s office of the Municipality of Les Iles confirms having received at least 12 valid signatures requesting the holding of a register, which is the first step in the referendum process.

In accordance with the laws governing the municipal world, the register will be held on one day on Monday, June 13, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The notice is expected to be published on June 3.

Citizens living in the zone covered by the PPCMOI as well as those in the contiguous zones will be able to sign the document at the Town Hall as well as at the Capitole de l’Est in Grande-Entrée.

If 30 people sign the document, the elected officials will have the possibility of calling a referendum on the issue or simply abandoning the project carried by the developer Pêcheries SBL.

The company recently explained that the fish pond is a necessary step in its development and that it represents an investment of nearly $2 million in the sector.

However, during the public consultation session held on April 12, citizens of the village expressed concerns about the location of the fish pound, located in the scenic corridor of the Grande-Entrée lagoon.

Questions were also raised about the effects of such a project on the value of adjacent land and on property assessment.
