Pound in Grande-Entrée: citizens can sign the register today

Today is the day that the register is being held for the construction of a pound in the residential sector on chemin des Fumoirs in Grande-Entrée.

If 30 residents of the by-law area and of the contiguous areas sign, the project estimated at 2 million dollars carried by SBL Fisheries will be submitted to the population for approval via a referendum that could be held in July.

The 160 people eligible to vote can go to the town hall or to the service point of the Capitole de l’Est between 9 am and 7 pm today.

In an article by Radio-Canada, the Municipality of the Islands indicated its intention to go through with the process without taking a position on the matter, preferring to leave the decision in the hands of the population.

In addition to the impact on the landscape, citizens have expressed concerns about the increase in traffic and noise in the area, as well as about the property assessment and value of adjacent lands.

For its part, the company explained that it had searched unsuccessfully for a commercial site and expressed its desire to integrate into the village, which is mostly composed of fishermen.

Also, the dockside storage of lobster in submerged crates will no longer be tolerated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada at the Grande-Entrée wharf after 2022, which represents an issue for SBL Fisheries, which currently manages its stocks in this manner.
