The old school on Entry Island is getting a makeover

Renovation of the former Entry Island School has been underway for the past few weeks and is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

CAMI Director Helena Burke visited the site with the architect and contractor responsible for the work.

In the works since 2015 and delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as overheated construction costs, she says she is happy and relieved to see the project finally moving forward.

Funding remains at $2.3 million from various partners.

Burke says the discovery of mold could result in a small cost overrun, which she estimates at a few thousand dollars.

According to Helena Burke, the museum portion, which covers just over 50% of the building’s space, is still scheduled to open in the summer of 2023.

She says she has brought in the Economuseum Network company and then proceeded to hire a program coordinator to prepare for the exhibition, which could be launched in March 2023 at an opening.

Once the renovations are complete, she would like to be able to open the community hall as soon as possible to meet the needs of the community, which does not have year-round public infrastructure.
