Port of Cap-aux-Meules: the announced investment well received in the community
The federal investment of $40 million for the reconstruction of the fishermen’s wharf at Cap-aux-Meules harbour is welcomed by the Municipality of the Magdalen Islands and by the archipelago’s business community.
The interim mayor, Gaétan Richard, considers this to be very good news for the community and hopes that the new infrastructure will meet the long-term needs of Magdalen Islanders.
Antonin Valiquette, General Manager of the Chambre de commerce des Îles, agrees. He reminds us that the use of the current facilities represents a challenge for the fishing industry.
According to the announcement made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his visit to the archipelago on Friday, the construction of the new fishermen’s wharf will begin in 2023 and will be spread over 4 years.
