The Canada Revenue Agency will soon be contacting people who have received the Canada Emergency Benefit to verify the criteria for receiving it.

Diane Lebouthillier, federal Member of Parliament for Gaspésie-les-Iles and Minister of National Revenue, reminds us that the agency always communicates with citizens by mail and invites people to be cautious with regard to fraudulent text messages and calls.

She explains that when you receive the letter, it is important to contact the CRA by phone and they will proceed on a case by case basis for refund agreements.

« If you believe you have been defrauded, don’t worry, » she said.

From March to October 2020, more than $74 billion has been paid to 8.9 million Canadians through CERB, which was introduced as an emergency measure in the early months of the pandemic.
