Coast Guard Seasonal Base Closure

Îles de la Madeleine

As it does every year, the seasonal Coast Guard base at Cap-aux-Meules is closed for the winter season.

Via press release, the federal agency states that its rescue vessels can no longer be used due to the prevailing navigation conditions in the Gulf, such as freezing spray and ice.

Until next April, Coast Guard search and rescue operations will be conducted by icebreakers.

If necessary, Department of National Defence aircraft can be mobilized to support operations.

All marine emergencies can be reported by calling the Coast Guard 1-800 number or by using VHF radio channel 16.

The seasonal bases in Quebec City, Tadoussac, Kegaska, Rivière-au-Renard and Havre-Saint-Pierre have been closed since November 30.
