Grosse Île Mayor Gordon Burke is considering ways his municipality’s fishing port might accommodate more boats.

While current infrastructure and regulations allow for the mooring of about fifty boats, he says he’s been approached by fishermen who fear a lack of space. He estimates that about half a dozen additional vessels could require access to the wharf.

According to him, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is working with the port authority on a short-term solution to accomodate a few ships before fishing begins.*

Asked about the municipal elections on November 2, Gordon Burke also indicated that he is still considering whether to run again. He appreciates the work atmosphere at Grosse-Île City Hall and says he has a good working relationship with the president of the Communauté maritime, Antonin Valiquette.

Gordon Burke was elected by acclamation last November, following the resignation of Diana-Joy Davies.
