Public Unveiling of the Family and Seniors Policy

Îles de la Madeleine

The official unveiling of the Family and Seniors Policy of the Municipality of the Islands took place last Sunday, one year after its adoption.

The event took place at Park des Bucks in the presence of Mayor Jonathan Lapierre and Monica Poirier, Director of Recreation, Culture and Community Life.

Although the policy was ratified in April 2021 by the elected officials, its presentation to the citizens had to be postponed several times, particularly because of the pandemic.

Ms. Poirier emphasizes that the time was finally right to move forward with a public event.

One of the long-term projects already under the Family and Seniors Policy is the creation of village hubs, which will serve as family and intergenerational meeting places.

Ms. Poirier also points out that this type of policy makes it easier for the municipality and its partners to obtain funding.

In all, about 15 people took part in the activity, which was held under a sunny sky.

The musical and dancing entertainment was provided by musicians Marlène Vigneau and Patrice Deraspe, accompanied by their children.

The first family policy of the Municipality of the Islands was adopted in 2008.
