Road report: increase in fatal accidents in the region in 2021

The Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region experienced a marked increase in the number of deaths related to road incidents in 2021.

According to data from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec, 14 people lost their lives last year, five more than the previous year.

This represents an increase of 46% over the average of the previous five years.

In addition, there were 425 injuries in road accidents in 2021.

This represents a 10% increase over 2020, but also a 13% decrease compared to the regional average of the past five years.

Of these, only 24 individuals required hospitalization, which is a slight decrease from the 2016 to 2021 normal.
