The Sentiers Entre vents et marées team wants to improve the marked trail on Entry Island.

The current route follows vehicle roads and requires walking back along the same path. However, representatives of the organization visited Entry Island in July to seek solutions to make the trail a loop and follow a route that would reduce the use of unauthorized shortcuts on private land.

One of them, Réal Jomphe, explains that efforts will be made this fall to convince owners of the affected lots to grant hikers a right of way.

His wife, Carole Longuépée, who has also sat on the Sentiers Entre vents et marées committee since its founding, clarifies that these are not notarized rights of way, but rather written agreements that can be terminated at any time.

Asked for her estimate of the annual number of people who use the archipelago’s marked trails, she indicates that it’s difficult to give a proper number.

The first trails of the Sentiers Entre vents et marées were marked out in 2017. The process is still overseen to this day by the Club de plein air des Îles, which will also celebrate its twentieth anniversary at the end of September.
