Weather report: an ordinary December

Îles de la Madeleine

The Islands had a fairly normal December, according to the report produced by Environment Canada.

Similar to what was observed elsewhere in Quebec, the archipelago had milder temperatures than usual, with an average mercury just above the freezing point, at 0.9°C.

Meteorologist Marie-Ève Giguère notes that the monthly normal is -2.3°C.

As for precipitation, she notes that the Islands received a little more than usual.

Giguère says the ice cover around the archipelago is forming at a good pace so far.

For the first month of the new year, Environment Canada is forecasting near normal temperatures, with a few flakes here and there, but no accumulation on the ground.
