Entry Island: timetable for municipal toilets met with skepticism
Entry Island residents are divided over the strategy unveiled by the Municipalité des Îles for the installation of new public restrooms.
Last week, elected officials voted in favor of a resolution to install sanitation facilities on the site of the current transshipment center, located near the fishing port. They intend to reuse the building that housed the old municipal restrooms near the wharf in order to move it at the new location, with an opening planned for summer 2026. However, some residents interviewed during a vox-pop are skeptical of this timeline, believing that several previous promises regarding this project have not been honored.

The choice of the transhipment site nevertheless seems to be viewed favorably, although some islanders deplore the lack of accessible toilets closer to the walking trails.

Furthermore, there are plans improve the wastewater treatment system at the Entry Island community center. Michel Vigneault, executive director of the Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders (CAMI), explains the nature of the upcoming work.
It should be remembered that the old municipal toilets on Entry Island were closed in 2021 due to the limited capacity of its septic system. Since then, islanders have noticed that many visitors are relieving themselves in nature, either on private land or on the side of the roads.
