Outdoor fire ban in effect until May 31

Îles de la Madeleine

The Director of the Fire Prevention and Safety Department, Joël Sauvé, reminds us that outdoor fires are prohibited until May 31 inclusively.

Only the use of propane fireplaces and barbecues is authorized during this period, since these installations do not create sparks or embers.

He notes that compliance with this by-law has improved over the past few years, thanks in particular to the prevention activities he has conducted with his colleague Nathalie Arseneau.

Until the ban is lifted, Magdalen Islanders who need to burn exceptional quantities of natural residue can apply for a special permit, the granting of which is directly linked to weather conditions.

Mr. Sauvé also reminds the audience that permits for beach fires, as of June 1, are free to individuals who apply for them.

These permits are intended to provide greater control over clean-up and to facilitate shared use of the shoreline, and can be obtained online.
