Erosion: Funding agreement concluded for work in the Gros-Cap sector

Îles de la Madeleine

The memorandum of understanding for the financing of shoreline protection work in the Gros Cap sector has been concluded between the Municipality of the Islands and the Department of Public Safety.

The document provides for a maximum of $5 million in funding to protect a 900-metre sector located between the CPE la Ramée and the beach.

According to the government’s calculation, the community’s share of this project is already included in the municipal investment of $2.5 million for the La Grave sector.

The protocol calls for the work to be completed by March 31, 2025.

The preliminary design phase, which is currently underway, is under the responsibility of the engineer specialized in coastal structures, Yann Ropars, who has been mandated by the Department of Public Safety.

In an article published in the weekly newspaper Le Radar, the director of engineering, ICT and building, Jean Hubert, states that the work aims to provide protection for a period of at least 30 years.

The concept should be presented to the MSP by the end of the year.
