Enjoy the Islands in an RV while respecting the host environment
In the midst of a period of high tourist traffic, the Municipality of the Islands is reminding the regulations in effect to control the use of recreational vehicles, which have become more and more popular over the years.
If historically, the presence of these vehicles was tolerated in two dune areas on public land, namely the North Dune in Fatima and the old Route 199 on the border between Pointe-aux-Loups and Grosse-Ile, the regulations on traffic in fragile environments apply.
These temporary installations will no longer be permitted in their current form once the management framework for the regional park is adopted in 2023, which will provide a framework for this practice.
In addition to the commercial campgrounds, which are equipped to offer services, two sites in the Fatima sector can accommodate recreational vehicles: the Centre Alfred-Gallant and the Anse-aux-Baleiniers parking lot.
Between June 15 and September 15, it is also permitted to use an RV attached to a house, as long as it does not have fixed amenities and is not connected to the septic installations of the residence.
With similar constraints, the regulations also allow the use of a vacant lot in a forest zone, as long as it is autonomous in terms of drinking water and wastewater management.
Some lots in resort zones also specifically authorize this use, with the possibility of installing a minimum of services.
Public parking lots can also accommodate vacationers, with the exception of lots belonging to the Municipality or under its responsibility, as well as school and church parking lots, as indicated on the signs prohibiting parking between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
