Highway 199 Protection: Detroit Pier work to begin soon
The rockfill work in the Detroit Pier area will begin shortly with the installation of the storage site that will be built where the Cormorandière wind turbine was formerly located.
The Gaspesian company Sani Sable L.B. was awarded the contract worth just over $24.2 million.
Jean-Philippe Langlais, spokesperson for the Ministère des Transports, explains that the work will be spread out over approximately one year, with a break during the winter period.
The department estimates that between 15 and 20 stone barges will be required and indicates that a flagman will be responsible for truck traffic at the exit of the wharf at Cap-aux-Meules.
The nature of the other obstacles related to the work will be specified shortly.
Mr. Langlais mentioned that once the work is completed, the work area required for the project will be converted into a parking lot and turned over to the Municipality.
Additional work is also planned for the Keating Bridge pier area in Grosse-Ile and the cottage area in Pointe-aux-Loups.
