CAMI: Helena Burke steps down for 2023

Helena Burke is stepping down as CAMI’s Executive Director.

She says she needed to find a new challenge in her professional life, which resulted in a position with the Regional Development Network, whose goal is to support the vitality of Quebec’s English-speaking communities.

After 16 years with the Grosse-Île-based English-speaking organization, she says she’s excited to start another chapter.

Over the years, Ms. Burke has led and participated in several projects, including the creation of Grandma’s Bakery, the establishment of Meals on Wheels for seniors, and the acquisition of a new building for the Veterans Museum.

More recently, the almost completed transformation of the old Entry Island School and the acquisition of 21 spaces for the future Eastern Daycare Center are part of her record.

However, she believes that it is the consolidation of bridges between the two linguistic communities of the Islands that has marked her time as director.

Helena Burke has taken a one-year sabbatical from CAMI to explore her duties at the Regional Development Network and will have to make an official decision on her position by December.

Earlier this fall, veteran Michel Vigneault was appointed as the interim Director of the organization.
