Incentives for the creation of housing in the Maritime Community rewarded by the UMQ
The Maritime Community’s efforts to stimulate the creation of year-round rental housing have been recognized by the Union des municipalités du Québec.
The incentives put in place over the past two years received the Municipal Ovation Award in the category of Community Development and Interculturality, awarded by a jury.
The Worker Accommodation Program and the $800,000 envelope dedicated to providing non-reimbursable support for developers wishing to build annual rental units were among the measures applauded.
A survey commissioned by the municipality revealed last summer that at least 200 new housing units were needed to solve the housing shortage in the territory by 2026.
Nine initiatives have been selected through a call for thematic projects and are receiving municipal subsidies, which should result in the construction of 101 available housing units annually by 2023.
