Former municipal councillor Jean-Philippe Déraspe is candidate for the nomination of Québec solidaire in the Islands
The entrepreneur Jean-Philippe Déraspe wishes to carry the colors of Québec solidaire during the provincial election of October 3.
He officially announced last week his candidacy for the nomination of the party for the riding of Les Îles.
The man who was municipal councillor of L’Étang-du-Nord from 2017 to 2021 explains that he wants to make the leap into provincial politics in order to defend better equity for people in precarious situations and to help solve the socio-economic problems that affect the Madelinots.
Confident about his chances of winning the nomination and becoming the designated candidate of Québec solidaire, he acknowledges that the left-wing party faces certain challenges on the archipelago.
On the other hand, about 20 supporters gathered at the Chez Renard bar last Friday to support the initiative of the candidate, who is currently the owner of the Marché Bonichoix Boni D. and president of the Bon goût frais des Îles.
The nomination process of Québec solidaire on the archipelago should end in mid-June.
It should be recalled that the party had attracted the favor of about 14% of voters in the archipelago during the last national election, in 2018.
These results had placed the Solidarity candidate Robert Boudreau-Welsh in third place behind the Liberal candidate Maryse Lapierre and the PQ candidate Joël Arseneau, who had then won the election.
