Staff shortage: Les Élymes daycare centre temporarily closes its doors

Structural workforce issues and some recent departures within its team are forcing Les Élymes daycare to close its doors for an unknown period of time.

The closure, effective Tuesday morning, was announced to parents on Monday evening.

This decision was not taken out of the blue, explained Ariane Cummings, president of the board of directors of the establishment, who says she is fully aware of the complications involved.

She says she is not in a position to establish a timetable for a reopening and that several meetings will be held in the next few days to evaluate the various options.

According to the explanations provided, a work stoppage that occurred on Monday would have been the trigger, which explains the sudden nature of the announcement.

It should be noted that the centre is currently operating without general coordination.

Ariane Cummings estimates that at least three additional staff would be needed to operate effectively, in addition to the positions on the management team.

As a reminder, this September, the non-subsidized spaces at Les Élymes will be transferred to Chez Ma Tante and converted to the public system.

According to Ms. Cummings, the regrouping of resources should help to perpetuate the spaces granted by the government.
