After a three-year absence, Héma-Québec will be back on the archipelago next Wednesday and Thursday – June 8 and 9 – for a blood drive.

However, the event’s format has been modified due to the pandemic context, says Laurent-Paul Ménard, the organization’s director of public relations.

Interested donors will therefore have to make an appointment before coming to the L’Étang-du-Nord Recreation Centre, he explains.

Walk-in donors may be accepted if the capacity of the on-site team allows.

Mr. Menard noted that the health crisis has left the blood supply depleted while the need has remained constant since 2020.

He invites all Magdalen Islanders who can to come and give a few minutes of their time, regardless of their blood type.

Of the 460 donations targeted by Héma-Québec, half of the appointments had already been filled as of Thursday, according to Laurent-Paul Ménard.

In addition, Joël Sauvé, Director of Public Security and Fire Services in the Islands, will be the honorary president of the blood drive.
