The archipelago will soon welcome five new family physicians, which should help reduce the waiting list at the access desk, which has 1,200 people registered.

Three of them will practice at the CISSS des Iles intramural site while the other two will join the Place Sumarah medical clinic.

In total, 16 physicians will be responsible for the care of the 10,000 users of the Family Medicine Group as well as the patients on the waiting list.

According to Dr. Serge Gravel, as reported by Radio-Canada, by being responsible for approximately 250 patients each, the five new doctors should be able to gradually eliminate the waiting list at the counter within two years.

According to Gravel, the opening of a new triage service to refer patients registered at the access window to the appropriate resource should also improve patient management.

This new service is the result of a recent agreement between the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec and the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.

It should be noted that Dr. Gravel left his position as Director of Professional and Hospital Services at the CISSS des Iles on August 12.
