Having followed Quebec City for nearly two years and having participated in the meetings of the intervention group on air transportation, Joël Arseneau, MNA for the Islands at the National Assembly, is very disappointed with the Regional Air Access Program that came into effect last week.

According to the elected representative, the measures favoured by Minister Bonnardel do not offer anything structuring for regional air transportation and are instead aimed at urban citizens.

He strongly doubts that the financial incentive for the purchase of tickets will substantially increase the volume of passengers and criticizes the government for its lack of vision.

While he welcomes the decision to lift the annual cap on the Air Fare Reduction Program, Joël Arseneau deplores the exclusion of charter trips, which he believes penalizes young people in their sports, socio-cultural and educational trips.

The MP would also have liked to see the 60% discount applied directly to the purchase of tickets and extended to organizations as well as to small and medium-sized businesses.
