Hydro-Québec is in the final miles of the preliminary design phase for the cable connection.

After determining the underwater route in the summer of 2021, teams of professionals will travel to the Islands this summer to evaluate the various options for connecting the landing site, located in the Belle-Anse sector, to the Cap-aux-Meules generating station.

The community relations advisor, Geneviève Cloutier, specifies that the route is beginning to be defined and that a letter will soon be sent to the owners of lots in the sector to inform them of the process.

Underground development is expected to begin in 2024 and take about two years to complete, followed by the connection work, which is expected to be offshore by the summer of 2026.

Ms. Cloutier mentioned that the project team will be in the Islands this week to meet with fishermen to update them on the progress of the project and to continue planning in order to avoid interfering with the season.

She added that the pre-project phase is expected to conclude in December 2022, allowing for the submission of a project cost estimate to the Régie de l’énergie in the early months of 2023.

Representatives of the Crown corporation will return to the archipelago this fall to meet with the public, including property owners in the Belle-Anse area.
