Fred-Jomphe Park will soon be redeveloped to make the site safer for users and to better protect the Havre-aux-Basque environment.

The initiative, which is the result of a collaboration between the ZIP Committee, the Association de kite des Îles, the Wind aux Îles windsurfing school and the Municipality, also aims to reconcile the different types of activities practiced in the area.

Shanya Ramirez, from Wind aux Îles, explains some of the issues that are accentuated by the high level of use of the site.

According to Émie Audet-Gilbert of the ZIP Committee, sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing also require responsible facilities and behavior in order to be considered « sustainable. »

In addition to the money invested by the partners, the project will receive $22,500 from the St. Lawrence Action Fund and $22,500 from Canada Steamship Lines.

According to the ZIP Committee, the redevelopment of Fred-Jomphe Park should be completed by March 2023.
