Fatima native Steve Chevarie is entering the race for mayor of the Islands.

It is out of pride in his Magdalen identity that he is making the leap into municipal politics, having earned his living in the food industry in recent years.

He is currently employed as a clerk at the JH Boudreau grocery store.

The Belle-Anse area resident says he wants to use his love of community service on a larger scale.

The man who is approaching 50 years of age started a bachelor’s degree in microbiology at Laval University before returning to the archipelago.

Over the years, he has worked as a laboratory technician, an observer on fishing boats and a factory worker before becoming a night cab driver and then a ready-to-eat clerk at the Bonichoix Market.

Mr. Chevarie compares the role of mayor to that of a « shepherd » of the population and identifies some of the issues that he considers to be priorities.

Steve Chevarie intends to lead a unifying campaign and pleads for a return to the roots as well as for a better diffusion of the pride of being Madelinot.
